Accessories:

All articles ranging from hats, caps, scarves, jeweler, belts, sunglasses and shoes to complete an outfit or look.

Adaptation:
Fashion Designing term for an interpretation of expensive designer wear reproduced in less expensive models.

Apparel:
An all-embracing term that is applied to men's, women's and children's clothing.

Avant Grade:
In any art the most daring of the experimentalists, innovation of original and unconventional designs, ideas or techniques during particular period. Forward thinking or advanced.

Boutique:
A free standing shop or an area within a retail store; devoted to specialized merchandise for a special interest customer.

Classic:
A particular style that continues as an accepted fashion over a period of time.

Collection:
A manufacture or designer's group of garments for a specific season. The season's total number of styles or designs, accumulated for presentation comprises a collection.

Couture:
French word for fine sewing.

Couturier:
French word for a dress maker/ designer who has his own couture house, couturiere (female)

Craze:
A fad or fashion characterized by much excitement of the crowd.

Custom Made:
Apparel made to order for the individual customer, cut and fitted to individual measurements as opposed to apparel, which is mass-produced.

Design:
An arrangement of parts, form, color, and line, for developing a style, idea, plan or drawing, a concept, a combination of details executed with artistry.

Designer:
People who manipulates and arrange fabric, color, and line for developing a style. Engaged in creating original clothing and accessories in various areas of fashion industry.

Display:
An arrangement of merchandise for visual presentation.

Drape:
The hang or the fall of the fabric.

Fad:
A short-lived trend or fashion.

Fashion:
A continuing process of change in the style of dress and adornment that are accepted by a large segment of the public at any particular time. The prevailing style (s) at any given time. When a style is followed or accepted by many people, it is a fashion.

Fashion consultant:
A person who gives professional fashion advice or services.

Fashion Cycle:
A term that refers to the rise, popularization, and decline of a fashion.

Fashion forecast:
Prediction of the colors and styles of apparel, which the majority of people in a segment will buy at a given time and place.

Fashion Press:
Reporters of fashion news for magazines, newspapers, broadcast media etc.

Fashion Promotion:
Image or sales promotion of designers, brand or merchandise accomplished by newspaper and magazine advertising, publicity, fashion show, window and interior display etc.

Fashion show or showing:
Formal presentations of a group of styles or collection with live models usually on a runaway or stage accompanied by music lights etc.

Fashion Trend:
The direction in which fashion is moving.

Haute Couture:
High quality fashion design or construction.

Hot number:
A style that sells quickly and in sizable quantities.

Knock off:
A design, which is a copy of a higher priced garment.

Line:
A collection of styles shown in a particular season.

Look:
Term used to describe the complete accessorized costume.

Mark up:
The difference between the cost price and the original retail price of the merchandise.

Market:
Potential customers for a product or service. A stores trading area. A city in which the showrooms of producers are concentrated.

Mass Fashion:
Styles or designs that are widely accepted and that can therefore be produced and sold in large quantities.

Mass Production:
Production of goods in quantity - many times at a time as opposed to one at a time.

Openings:
Fashion showings of new collections by apparel producers at the beginning of a season.

Prêt a Porter:
Ready to wear apparel as distinguished from couture clothes.

Ready to Wear:
Apparel that is mass-produced, as opposed to apparel made to order.

Sample:
The model or garment (may be original in design, a copy, or an adaptation.

Style:
A type of product with specific characteristics that distinguishes it from another type of the same product.

Style Number:
An identification number given to a design or style.
